Alright Kiddos it time for another one of Wayne's reviews.
This review is brought to you by Kijafa Danish Red Cherry Wine. It's Friday....it's been a long week...and I've had a little....enough said. This means that I will be using the spell check after I finish typing.
I watched the re broadcast of The Bionic Woman on the Sci-Fi Channel tonight since I missed it earlier this week but so fare I've watched every episode.
Pros
1. Katie Sackhoff - I am convinced that any actor can play "crazy" but no one can play "broken" like Katie Sackhoff. In her role as Sarah Covus she is bloody brilliant! I was already impressed with her performance as Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica in which she plays a somewhat similar character but in this role we can clearly see that she had broadened her horizons and hammered out a new definition of crazy. If she does not receive an Emmy for her work on this show then obivously no one at the awards is watching.
2. Mark Sheppard - Mark Sheppard plays the character of Anthony Anthros, a bionic scientist and the father of the surgeon that created our main character. Mark is very sinister in this role and in my opinion does not receive enough screen time although I am sure that it is coming. During Dragon*Con Mark shared some insight with me about his role while we were walking from the Hyatt to the Marriott and he explained that Andros is a very complex man and will be full of surprises.
3. Writing - The writing is pretty decent. The depictions of the characters and their roles are very reminiscent of the first 2 season of Alias. The show is somewhat is predictable in some ways but is in no way lacking in twists. The main theme of the story seems to be the struggle that Jamie Summers endures of dealing with several major and sudden changes in her life all while trying to maintain balance and stability in her new life.
Cons
1. The Main Character- The main character of Jamie Summers is portrayed by Michelle Ryan, a newcomer to U.S. television but a well known figure from the BBC. Michelle is great but everytime I watch the show I can not seem to portray it without seeing Elisha Dushku in the lead role. Maybe I'm a little biased but I think she would be at least 500 times better in the role
2. 50 million dollars - Must I be reminded no less than 5 times per episode that Jamie is walking around with 50 million dollars of her Jonas' hardware in her body so she better do what she's told?
3. Not Enough Mark Sheppard - More ROMO!!!!! oops Wrong Show. MORE ANDROS!!
So far that is all that I have come up with but as the show progresses I will provide another review towards the end of the season.
In other news the most recent episode of Firefly Talk features a great interview with Jane Espenson in which she talks about Buffy, Firefly, the Upcoming season of Battlestar Galactica and many other things. Check out the podcast section of iTunes or download the the broadcast at www.fireflytalk.com. There is also a quick commentary about "My Favorite Badger Moment" by yours truly!
