OK folks this is your first chance to be a part of the programming for this year's Dragon*Con. I want to build a panel around the top 10 most devastating deaths in the verse. Joss has that knack for just ripping a character right out of the story when you don't expect it. So here's how it is. You put down your suggestions for which character bought it in a way that you're still dealing with.
So that's it....give me your top 3 and I will then build a top 10 off of your suggestions. Get crackin!

Tough choice. I was torn between my #3 choice and Cordellia but my choice still affects me as much today as it did when it happened and Cordellia's death does not.
1) Wash (Firefly/Serenity)
2) Fred (Angel)
3) Wesley (Angel)

Wow, great question. And so many to choose from! In the end (no pun intended), I have to go with:
1) Wesley
2) Doyle
3) Wash
Other deaths were also hella powerful - Tara and Fred come vividly to mind - but it was these three that most left me feeling that gut-wrenching hollowness that Joss seems so great at bringing forth. Maybe it's not just a matter of the death itself, but how the death came about. Each of these three not only died tragic deaths, but they each died choosing to take a stand in a battle that had come to mean something so much larger than themselves.

(I wouldve said Fred instead of Walsh but even though her loss was horrible...Illyria was kinda cool and it's like a lil part of Fred is still there. Sometimes lol. Poor Wesley too but...atleast he is in the comics right now where Tara and Cordy arent. *sniffle*)

Guess that depends on if you mean had the biggest impact on the story, or on the fans themselves.
Personally I found the loss of Tara, Wash and Joyce pretty harsh on both sides. But Doyle, for instance, had a huge impact character-wise. Even tho he was so short lived Jesse also had a huge character impact... moreso for Xander than anyone else, but that one really shaped who Xander became IMO. And let's not forget Jenny..... Heh, this one looks like a can of worms *G*

I wouldn't call Jenny one of the biggest impacting deaths in the verse, perhaps to Giles and even some extent to Buffy... and the Scoobies.... but in the end I think Giles was the most impacted by it. Not that it wasn't awful... But again it goes back to if we're talking about impact on the fans or the characters themselves... because while Wash's death was HUGE tot he fans... there wasn't enough left of the movie, and of course no eps, so really the character impact is minimal in what we've seen. Not to say that it would have been later, but we never got to see that far ahead.

Ok I already voted for Tara, Cordy, & Wash...but I feel bad now that I didnt vote for Anya...dang it should've been top 4!!! I cant pick just three and no one has really picked Anya's death as being a top 3. Her death was pretty devasating and there wasnt really any closure.

If we're getting into lesser characters too, what about Ford(Buffy)? I suppose his death really only had an impact on Buffy, but the whole story was pretty sad.
The more I think about it the harder it is even though I already picked 3. I keep thinking fred should be #2 instead of Wesley.
