So, Fray chronicles the calling of Melaka Fray in the distant future. In this comic run, written by Joss, we're given some answers as to what happens to the slayer line after Buffy (or perhaps with Buffy?).
I personally think this was a great continuation of the universe, if not the Buffy storyline itself. I think it proves that the story Joss started all those years ago is strong enough that we don't need Buffy for it to carry on.

On the note of continuing in the Slayer world, I also enjoyed a lot of the short stories published in the Tales of the Slayer collections. There's also a graphic novel collection of short pieces by the same name. One of the stories in particular, written by Joss, was done in a sort of sing-songy rhyme that was wonderfully crafted and creeped me the hell out.
I keep hoping for more stories/comics that further expand upon the Buffy/Angel mythos.

Well I've heard whisperings that Fray may still have a future, though no one is quite sure on what that might be, whether more comics, a book, or possibly some kind of cartoon movie or something. But it's good to see that no matter how many of our shows they cancel, they can't beat us down.

I've got my comic book guy working on getting me the Tales of the Slayers and Tales of the Vampires books at the present. I know I could probably Amazon them, but I love to give him something to do!

I saw Tales of the Vampires come through my store yesterday and it took a lot of will power not to buy it. I'm exceptionally poor right now. LoL But it's on my amazon wishlist, so that counts for something right? Besides, I think it, too, will be in the omnibus, though I'm not certain.

I absolutely loved the Fray comic. I loved her character, how her beginnings were not smooth, just like Buffy's (a ditzy cheerleader who wanted nothing to do with the responsibility). Fray's was obviously a little more difficult with not having a watcher to teach her.... I really hope they find a way to continue that somehow. Although, with how Season 7 ended it might not make as much sense. I think Fray was written before the "all the potentials are now slayers" ending. The comic made it sound like Buffy was just the last to be called because evil had been all but defeated. But with the Season 7 ending there would be many Slayers going into the future, because theoretically all potentials that are born would instantly be slayers no? Or was that supposed to be a one time, those who are potentials now get to be slayers kind of spell? Oh the musings... Either way I suppose that storyline could continue, and I think it would be very cool if it did. Maybe Melaka could meet others like herself later in the storyline and train them as well? Hmm..... Well, I rambled on enough.

Fray was written, I think, sometime during season four. And there has been talk of late that the comics of Buffy are, in theory, going to bring the story more in line with Fray's continuity, since both are technically canon.

since both are technically canon. Okay I have what may seem to be a dumb question.... what does it mean when people say something is canon? I've never heard that until recently.

My understanding of canon is that it's any storyline that's approved by Joss, but I could be wrong.
I think I need to buy Fray and read them I am very intriqued now..............I am off to buy the next issue of Buffy season 8 today.

It will be interesting how the storyline progresses to the point where another slayer does not get called for 200 years. I am really liking Buffy season 8.

Canon is loosely interpreted these days, because of the comics. It used to be, anything created by the original brains was canon. So the shows, Fray, Tales of the Slayers, and Tales of the Vampires were all canon, were as all the hundreds of other Buffy comics were not.
However, Joss has stated that Season 8 is the CANON continuation of the story, meaning that everything happening in it is the OFFICIAL stuff, even though he's not writing most of it. It's kind of like the show in that regard. If you go back and look, he oversaw stuff, but he only actually wrote a handful of episodes. Now that Season 6 of Angel is in the works, he's said he probably won't be writing any of it, but still considers it to be the real continuation. And because he's Joss, that makes it Canon.
Does that make sense?

Yes, that helps a lot. I just heard the term being used and had no idea what people meant. I would just politely nod my head like I did... So, now I can actually know what they mean. ;D
